This year, the Naples City Dock closed on May 1. Many fishing and boating charter captains, including Captain Geoff of Chasin’ Tales, had to temporarily relocate their businesses until the City Dock reopens. The dock will take around 9 months to rebuild and should be open around February 2018.

A lot of the charter captains are unhappy about this move, because about a quarter of their business comes from walk-up visitors on the dock. Signs have been posted on the dock to let people know of the construction and where people can go to find these charters. Many of the captains have relocated to Naples Landings, which is a boat launch owned by the city.

By December 2017, one phase of the rebuilding should be complete; the commercial slips will be open to the captains at this time for them to begin charters again at this location.

The new Naples City Dock will have 84 slips and ipe wooden beams; there will be two new bathrooms built, along with a gazebo and floating concrete fuel dock. This rebuild costs $6.5 million. The dock needs this rebuild because the current wooden beams were beginning to fail. The last time the dock was built was back in 1983. The rebuild is necessary. The Fort Myers construction firm, Kelly Brothers Inc. is rebuilding the dock.

Captain Geoff of Chasin’ Tales will be relocated at Naples Landings at Landings Park in 9th Street in Naples. His boat is 22 feet long and accommodates 4 people.
